I Lost Control
It grew to something I wasn’t proud of anymore.
I allowed it to get out of control.
To take over my life.
It became ugly.
There was too much self promotion. Too much, HEY LOOK AT ME!
I cared too much about traffic. About stats. About how many people I was attracting.
Everything felt cluttered.
I was filling the sidebar with shit.
Plug-ins, widgets, forms, scripts, hidden code….it was slowing everything down.
I didn’t like how my website was representative of what was going on inside my head.
It was too complex.
But when I look forward, I see only simple.
I do not have a lot of possessions anymore. I don’t have a “real” place to live.
I have been living out of a suitcase and will soon be living out of a van.
Simplicity.
I Listened to you.
You spoke with your views.
When I delivered content that spoke to you, you commented, you read, you shared.
When I delivered content to get the best SEO for my site, you called me out.
By not commenting, not sharing, and not reading.
I was Never Low Gravity Ascents
I started Low Gravity Ascents to be a climbing specific blog.
About my climbing. About other’s climbing. About climbing experiences. Climbing Gear.
Climbing as life.
It’s funny, the things we take from people that come in and out of our lives.
Of all the good things and bad things someone has said to you, the one or two things that stick.
An ex-girlfriend summed me up pretty well:
You’re a climber, but you’re not a climber.
A real climber might be offended by that.
I wore it as a badge of honor. I still do.
How terrible would it be to be labeled as just one thing? I can’t imagine.
I’m more than a climber.
I’m a health coach.
A writer.
A snowboarder.
A good friend.
A bad friend.
A traveler.
An engineer.
A gardener.
A freelancer.
A helping hand.
A shoulder to cry on.
An asshole.
How can I be all of those things and only write about climbing?
What to Expect
LowGravityAscents.com will continue to exist. There’s too much information to trash it, but I don’t want all of it here.
I will continue linking to previous “LGA” posts when they’re relevant and using all of the media I’ve created and uploaded ot that site, but as this site grows, those links will become fewer and fewer.
I’ve migrated 43 posts over here. Probably still too many, but they’re the posts that have withstood the test of time.
The only stuff I want here is the stuff you’ve connected with.
As you click around and explore the three sections:
Be aware that they are not posted in chronological order. There are some that are 2 years old. But they are still relevant.
I did not go through and update them all too the new stylistic changes I have planned, but all new posts from this point forward will be.
Complex Simplicity
Life is complex. There is rarely a simple answer to a simple question. Even more obscure: a simple answer to complex life.
But I want to keep this website simple. Elegant.
I still have a need to grow traffic, but it’s not my primary objective anymore. That will come by delivering the best possible content.
I still want to grow my email list, but you won’t see form after form after form, home page, side bar, IN YOUR FACE ALL THE TIME!
As I migrate my life to a life of simplicity, so too will my website represent that.
Say goodbye to Low Gravity Ascents, and say hello to me.
